about

"La Danse Interdite" (Mvsa Ermeticka / KHU002)

...a long absence in the gothic scene, due both to some radical changes inside Artist’s life and then the frustrating loss of his debut full-lenght “Thanaterotis Symposion” master...
Now, En Velours Noir presents to the mass its 2nd (and this time homogeneous) long playing mcd: an unusual concept work which represents a tribute to Tango Renaissance through the Contemporary Avant-garde
musicians’ contribute, blending decadent sentimental lyrics (also including an adaptation for a poem written by P.P.Pasolini) with music halfway Free Jazz and Classic Chamber Music with a touch of Dark Ambient.
As opposition to the ‘easy’ primitive structure of Argentinian dance halls repertoire, is clear since the first notes the compositive inclination to the cultured aspect of the genre following the path of all the conductors
(often of Italian origin) who created a new interpretation
and arrangement of Tango canons by virtue of a thorough listening only, placing for instance modern instruments like tenor or contralto sax beside the ‘classic’ accordion/bandoneòn - violin - piano ensemble and giving an orchestral imprint to the performance then transferred
to cultural cafè or theatres.
Moreover, revaluing some stylemes of Italian songwriting under a melancholy view and an experimental approach to the use of voice and poetry vocalization, the rétro trade-mark of this project becomes rich with the introduction inside the musical scores of new counterpoint deepenings and Research contrivances such as the Estibillista presence or some polyrhythmic phrasings, often melting into sonorities peculiar to another deeply-rooted passion of the Author: the Soundtrack genre.
Probably a daring album taking into consideration the musical ambience inside which En Velours Noir moved
its first steps till now and for open-minded listeners only as well, but for sure an important moment of explication for his personal cogitations about Spleen...
